Sneetches of Vaccines (Working title)

Inspired by Dr. Suess motivated by HerShee

Now, the 7%ers of Aussies did grab
A coveted slot for a vaccine jab
Those spots were so scarce while the outbreak, it grew
Alerting us more that it’s more than the flu

But because some had shots — Thank You, dutiful mates
We have told all our friends across country and states
“It’s a must that you get one”, they’d post and they’d share
So we can lift this damn lockdown only so much we can bear

For the one who got shots, we say they are vaxxed
But we need more of those jabs to allow borders relaxed!
We’re locked in our homes the case numbers increase
While the “no mask” wearing infractions get issued by the police

“Let us out! We feel trapped” and confused by the rules
Albeit now we have more gratitude for the teachers in schools!
But we’re utterly confused with the messages gone out
What age, which vaccine? The media’s cast so much doubt

“If you’re older than 50 you get the AZ(ee)
Your second arm jab in 12 weeks you will see”
But wait that’s not right we’ve decided to change
If you’re under half-century the AZ can be arranged.

And the 3 months of waiting we’ll change that rule too
Why not 6 weeks of pausing to add something new?
More confusion — it’s fun — keep you on your toe
While the people you date, your age they’ll not know.

The characters appearing on many pressers we’ve seen
Who’s next you may ask — maybe Sylvester McMonkey McBean?
You might know this old scammer from Dr. Suess’s The Sneetches
He lives not too far from the Far Eastern beaches

Alas, he is who capitalised on erasing the lines
Of Inequity and status and to embrace all creature kinds
So maybe his cousin Eloise Beth McBean
Will bring her contraption to rollout all vaccines

Please do not bicker or kvetch ‘bout which brand
Be it Pfizer or AZ, we can heal this burnt land.
She’ll not charge a cent like her cousin Sylvester
And jab all of the people — they came out of sequester!

While she listens intently to ATAGI and polies
She gets the job done despite horrors and follies
She does better than Gladys, Anna, Dan and McGowen
And the visitors tenfold we now can allow in!

While the Sneetches first story ended doubting Old Sly
Ellie ’twas successful wearing her mask she did cry
“Come one and come all bring your arm, get the shot
Cause the Morrison rollout has oh, lost the plot.”

There’s so much more drama to this story that can be creatively put into rhyme. This is a community pandemic, why not a community poem? Feel free to add your verses in the comments….
